7. Lack of sunlight
According to researchers at Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego, approximately 250,000 cases of colorectal cancer and 350,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented worldwide by increasing levels of vitamin D3. Researchers examined the association between vitamin D and cancer using satellite measurements of sun and cloud cover. They took that info and analyzed blood serum levels of vitamin D3. In the end, researchers found an inverse correlation between serum vitamin D and the risk of colorectal and breast cancers, meaning the less vitamin D, the higher the risk. Although too much sunlight can be harmful to the skin, the sun is the best source of vitamin D. Just don’t overdo it, and remember to get your vitamin D levels checked regularly.
